What computers can do for you automatically: The role of automatic differentiation in inverse modeling.

Abstract

This survey article introduces the technology of automatic differentiation from a user's perspective. It shows some applications from fluid dynamics and also sketches the design of the software tool ADiMat that implements this technology for programs written in Matlab.
