Until not so long ago, the term accelerated computing was used synonymously for the acceleration of floating point-heavy and highly parallel workloads through dedicated General Purpose Graphics Processing Units (GPGPUs). Since then the world went through a rapid shift, highly parallel accelerators are everywhere. The span covers all computing machinery from embedded devices over central processing units to dedicated special-purpose data center devices. This seminar discusses and studies recent advances in accelerated computing. We'll look into the respective technologies from all angles. I.e., that we'll study the offered opportunities, requirements and limitations of state-of-the-art and emerging hardware. Structurally, each student chooses a topic which aligns with respective interests and becomes an expert in this topic. Exemplary topics include but are not limited to application-specific integrated circuits, system-on-a-chip approaches used in recent flagship smartphones, CPU-oriented matrix engines or coprocessors, as well as high-end GPGPUs and dedicated accelerators. Wherever possible a seminar presentation will discuss hands-on experiences.


Das Seminar findet als wöchentliche Veranstaltung statt. (Derzeit ist ein wiederkehrender Termin montags um 10:00 Uhr geplant.)

Vorbesprechung: In der ersten Woche des Wintersemesters 2022/23 am 17.10.2022 um 10:00 Uhr (s.t.) in Raum 3220, Ernst-Abbe-Platz 2.
